You may be struggling with anxiety, low mood or depression, relationship difficulties, bereavement or other losses, your identity, sexuality, disordered eating or self-harming behaviour, life transitions, spiritual or religious concerns. It may be that you need support managing a particularly painful and difficult situation. You may want to understand yourself better, the choices you make, the situations you get into and your ways of responding. Or you may have a pervasive feeling that all is not well but not know why.
Psychotherapy is about giving space and attention to our thoughts and feelings, something which can be surprisingly difficult to do by ourselves in everyday life. We can get stuck, going round in circles or become very proficient at shutting them out altogether, but this usually comes at some considerable cost, both to ourselves and those around us.
By attending to our feelings, particularly the difficult and painful ones we are tempted to avoid, we are able to gain insight and greater self understanding. Outcomes can include relief from symptoms, healthier and more fulfilling relationships, more effective living and a greater sense of personal freedom.
